Little sweetheart, I was sitting here at the desk, writing, this morning, and one of the things that came up was about that compilation album, Dark Was the Night, that we bought at Easy Street Records on one our trips to Seattle. It’d just come out and we were most keen about it because it had a track from Bon Iver and we’d just recently discovered him.
As we listened to Dark Was The Night, several other groups began to come to our attention, chiefly among them, The National. Two of the band’s members, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, were the producers and the group had a single track on the 31 track album, “So Far Around the Bend”. It was our gateway song to The National, who soon thereafter became another band whose music was so dear to us both.
Honestly, little sweetheart, I hadn’t listened to the song in some time and when I put it on today so I could better describe it as I was writing, I dissolved into tears and had to step away from my desk, weeping for you.
I’d forgotten how perfectly the lyrics suited us and even more how the very sounds so perfectly conjured the glow around that time - the best years of my life - when every moment was with and of you.
I’ve much more to say, it’s all in there, but I wanted to put this down here for you, my little sweetheart, as well. How I love you! Forever! Forever!
My sweetheart, partner & soulmate, Summer Lindsay Serafin, passed away on 3/18/11 after a tragic accident. She was just 31. I remember her always and everywhere. And here.
